An Excerpt from the Newsletter of the
Okanagan-Vernon Constituency Association

Did You Know………………?

  1. That the Unity Party consists of only one other provincial party, the Family Coalition Party, and that Reform BC, Social Credit, the Conservatives, and the BC Party all withdrew from the unification process.

  2. A teleconference meeting of the Reform BC Board on October 16, 2000 (with a quorum) voted to delay consideration of unification until after the 2001 Provincial Election. Then president, Mr.Chris Delaney, who was not present at the meeting, chose not to accept the Board decision and proceeded with the formation of the Unity Party anyway. Even in light of comments made by Mr. Delaney the month before in which he states “there is very little will on the part of the board or the rest of the members to proceed with a Unity Convention, since it will essentially be a merger of us and Family Coalition, and the feeling is we would be hurt by this”.

  3. Reform BC was suspended by Elections BC because Mr.Bill Vander Zalm and Mr. Delaney on January 4, 2001 met privately with Elections BC auditors to express that some of the over-spending in the Delta South provincial by-election, of which Mr. Vander Zalm was the candidate, should be transferred from the candidate over to the Party.

  4. Reform BC had to take Elections BC to the BC Supreme Court in order to get Reform BC reinstated.

  5. Mr. Vander Zalm filed with Elections BC to have Reform BC deregistered without Board or Members approval. Fortunately, without success.

  6. A provincial constituency association that is not registered cannot use its money for political purposes, only for constituency administration. The Directors of Reform BC Okanagan-Vernon Constituency Association registered Reform BC, then transferred almost $6000.00 of Reform BC monies to the Unity Party then deregistered the Reform BC Constituency Association (leaving a bank balance of $1.77) without the approval of Reform BC and went on to form a Unity Constituency Association.
