CREATING OPPORTUNITIES TO SOLVE PROBLEMS IN HEALTHCARE

North Vancouver – Last night at an all candidates meeting co-sponsored by The North Vancouver Chamber of Commerce for the North Vancouver Seymour riding Reform BC’s Ron Gamble outlined views on healthcare that would create real opportunity and prosperity for British Columbians not empty rhetoric. Part of which must be a two tier if Health Care is to survive.

We must find more efficient ways of delivering health care services, to secure the long-term affordability of the system that all British Columbians demand. Similar to what is being offered in Britain, and in Sweden, where privatization of home care, ambulance service, and hospitals have reduced costs by some 30%.

Reform BC supports private health care delivery alternatives aimed at reducing waiting lists and improving service in specialized areas of medicine. In Sweden, waiting times for Hip Replacements and Heart surgery has been reduced dramatically.

Currently we are witnessing a protracted job action by our nurses. There are no alternatives as nurses and doctors have the choice to either work for the government or not work at all-which is really no choice at all.

There are no incentives for innovation or service under a system that offers no choice for workers or consumers. Why should we force our graduating students into working for a government institution?

Nurses and doctors have spent valuable time going to school and yet cannot use their skills privately for their own benefit-is it any wonder why there is a shortage in this profession.
