PRESS RELEASE

May 11th 2001

CHRIS DELANEY MISLEADS BILL GOOD

When asked by Bill Good on CKNW this AM as to the existence of Reform BC, Mr. Chris Delaney responded that Elections BC should have accepted the resignation of Reform made to them by the Reform board.

What Mr. Delaney did not say, was that a Resolution at a Reform board meeting held on February 10th, 2001 in Aldergrove to deregister the Reform Party, had neither a quorum nor a vote from the members to do so.

It is unfortunate that the media is afraid to question the integrity of an individual who claims to have support from our members, when in reality, only 649 out of approximately 3000 (20%) members, sent in a ballot. 80% did not respond because it was not a secret or proper ballot.

Mr. Delaney also did not adhere to a Motion passed by the Reform Board of Directors October 16, 2000 teleconference meeting, that did have a quorum, to hold off the unity convention until after the next Provincial Election and move forward as Reform BC. Mr. Vander Zalm was in attendence.

The question that should have been asked by Mr. Good was why on January 4, 2001,when Mr. Delaney and Mr. Bill Vander Zalm met privately with Elections BC auditors, not defend the party’s spending of some $ 53,000. Instead this private meeting, without the presence of their Financial Agents, who knew nothing of this meeting, agreed to move expenses that were incurred by the campaign on to the party.

Why then on April 4th 2001 did Mr. Delaney publicly deceit Mr. Vaughn Palmer into believing that he "had nothing to do with it." That "his role is simply to act as the chairman of the board, the board is the only one that can actually approve spending and the only spending approved was about $ 13,000."

Mr. Delaney has no credibility to be elected as an MLA. In fact Mr. Delaney had resigned as president of Reform BC on December 18, 2000. And because he wanted Reform BC deregistered should have excused himself from attending the January 4, 2001 meeting as he was in a direct conflict of interest.

On a more positive note, Mr. Delaney, with Reform BC poised as the next official opposition with 20% in the polls could have left the overspending with the campaign where it belonged and have become the next Reform Leader of the Opposition in the BC Legislature.

What Mr. Delaney has shown Reformers, is not of his power of love, but of his love of power.
