Reform BC Cleared To Run Candidates
April 25, 2001
Press Release
VICTORIA - Chief Electoral Officer Robert Patterson was ordered to lift the fine of $31,286. and suspension of Reform BC following the Supreme Court decision made by Justice Sherman Hood. This means that Reform BC will be able to run candidates in the current provincial election.
Challenging the Chief Electoral Officer by going to the Supreme Court allowed Reform BC to get some of the facts out as to why the party was suspended and how the party expenses went from $13,573.39 to $53,234.66 without any approval or authority from the Party Board.
Mr. Delaney lied to the Media when he told them he was not involved in the By-Election. The truth of the matter is that Mr. Chris Delaney and Mr. Bill Vander Zalm met with the Elections BC forensic auditor on December 20, 2000 and again on January 4, 2001 to specifically express their view that some expenses incurred by the Bill Vander Zalm campaign were expenses incurred by the Party.
Is that why Mr. Delaney and Mr. Vander Zalm left Reform, a brand name party with 20% in the polls? Is that why they tried hard to deregister the party? So that Mr. Vander Zalm, the candidate, personally would not have to pay the fine?
Now that Reform BC is back on track we now have less than a week to nominate candidates. This means that the deadline to file candidates papers is May 3,2001 which will limit the number of Reform BC candidates we can run."
It is important that we try to run as many good Reform candidates as we possibly can, particularly to maintain party status and carry the Reform banner. Some say the NDP are finished as a political party. Do you really want to see the Liberal Government sweep all 79 seats? Who will hold them accountable?
We need your help, morally and financially. The party can again receive much needed donations. Please send campaign donations to our office manager Barb Smith at 1715 Riverside Drive, North Vancouver BC V7H 1V8 or call 604-929-8434 if you would like more information.
Yours Truly,
Ron Gamble
President, Reform BC
