Stop Treaty
Negotiations
A Reform
BC government will put a moratorium on
treaty negotiations.
Vaughn Palmer host of Voice
of BC April 9, 2003 asked Chief Ed John,
former
NDP member of the Legislature, and Chief
Stewart Phillip how much it would
take to settle Indian land claims. Chief
Ed John stated that the province
of BC should refund all money made from
BC resources since confederation.
In essence they were laying claim to the
whole province.
Shortly afterwards on April
10, 2003 the BC Liberal government announced
a
proposed settlement with a first Nation
in the Nanaimo area which includes
5,000 hectares of land, over 75 million
in cash, 31.5 million to buy out
private holdings, including some lots
on Gabriola Island and a further 2.5
million for the purchase of industrial
lands.
While the BC NDP-Liberal
government takes it upon themselves to
give away
the provinces Crown and Private Lands,
plus rights not offered to
non-Indians without consent of its citizenry,
they do so at their own peril.
As the BC Liberals are
also not representing the will or opinion
of its
citizens a Reform BC government will halt
all treaty discussions on their
behalf.
